Richard Avedon Archive App

For those of you who could spend hours browsing through hundreds of amazing older archived photographs, you may be interestest in this.*

Brigitte Bardot, hair by Alexandre, Paris, January 27, 1959. The Richard Avedon Foundation

The Richard Avedon Foundation (the corporation that preserves Richard Avedon's body of work) have recently released an app for iPad with over 1,000 of Avedon's images. Oh and it's free!

The app has a simplistic design, which works wonderfully with Avedon's images. Photos are separated into Portraits, Fashion and Reportage and also shows Avedon's Exhibition and Magazine work. Each photo is well detailed with names of models and designers and year the photo was taken. When you see the different years that photographs have been taken, it shows you how amazing Richard Avedon was to have a photographic career for so long.

After working with photographic archives for over 3 years, I've seen quite a few online archives. This is the first archive app I have come across and I think it's a brilliant idea. Having a renowned photographers work so easily accessible on your own device is great for referencing but also great for inspiration.

Overall, this beautiful app is well worth having on your iPad, especially as it's free, and I would certainly download more from other photographers if this becomes a 'thing'.
