2014 Eurovision Favourites

Saturday 8pm BST (Tonight!) is EUROVISION!

After watching both semifinals, I have chosen my favourite acts of 2014 and these are the acts I think you should look out for tonight. These have been judged by if I was still singing them after the programme finished. (No videos included, don't want spoilers do we.)

Name: Mariya Yaremchuk  Song: Tick - Tock  Representing: Ukraine

Mariya performs a song she co-wrote after winning Ukraine's national selection. She performs with one dancer who spends his routine inside what can only be described as a human hamster wheel. The song has a catchy chorus with fast tempo which matches with the fast dancing within the spinning wheel. A foot-tapping song which will get you pumped.

Name: Freaky Fortune feat. RiskyKidd  Song: Rise Up  Representing: Greece

Freaky Fortune perform with Hackney born RiskyKidd and have created a hip-hop/dance track, which goes against the grain of typical Eurovision songs. Freaky Fortune were first discovered online by Perez Hilton after a Katy Perry cover of theirs went viral. While the duo and RiskyKidd perform, a single dancer jumps on a trampoline which looks like a lot of fun. This track has a holiday/dance vibe to it and will get the crowd dancing. 'Rise Up' one of my favourite songs of 2014.
__________

Name: Sebalter  Song: Hunter of Stars  Representing: Switzerland

Sebalter brings whistling to Eurovision. Sebalter (real name Sebastiano Paù-Lessi) won Switzerland's Eurovision national selection. 'Hunter of Stars' brings the violin back to Eurovision and mixed with his whistling skills creates a very catchy and jolly song. The song has a folk feel and really gets you dancing and also whistling!
__________

Name: Carl Espen  Song: Silent Storm  Representing: Norway

Carl Espen has gone down the Ballard route with his song 'Silent Storm' but there is something different with this song. Carl has an extremely powerful voice which gave me goosebumps (That's a real test isn't it, the goosebump test) and he can really hold a note. Not your typical Eurovision pop song, but there is something special about it.

Name: The Common Linnets Song: Calm After The Storm  Representing: The Netherlands

The Common Linnets remind me a little of a laid back Lady Antebellum. The duo consists of Ilse DeLange and Waylon  who have joined forces to work on a new album and represent The Netherlands. The performance involves the two artists both playing acoustic guitar, singing into a double microphone. There is a lot of intense eye contact in their performance. With each other and the camera. The two went to Nashville, Tennesee, which shows in the country vibe the song has.

__________

Name: Pollapönk  Song: No Prejudice  Representing: Iceland

It's The Wiggles! I joke, but Pollapönk are a really fun band and were really enjoyable to watch perform. Even though Pollapönk are a band with a sense of humour, their aim is to educate those who listen to their songs. With their entry 'No Prejudice' the song celebrates diversity and stop bullying and prejudice. Their performance is extremely colourful, energetic  and fun to watch.
