Wimbledon 2014

Wimbledon is over for another year. I have really enjoyed the tennis this year and I'm already feeling the Monday Wimbledon blues. There were some really great things about Wimbledon 2014 and it's a year I felt I was truly enticed by the game. For fun, here are some of the things I enjoyed about Wimbledon 2014

Dimitrov the Contortionist

I have never seen a player move, or slide, like Grigor Dimitrov. I know that this year was particularly dry, which is why the ground was so dusty and a lot of players fell. But Dimitrov most certainly fell with style. Also the way he can move his body to get a shot. Almost hard to believe, but brilliant to watch. Here are some of my favourite shots of Dimitrov defying the laws of physics.

Joking aside, I think the Dimitrov/Djokovic semi-final match was amazing tennis and for both players to end up on the floor like this shows how much power and determination goes into these games. Incredible!

Celebrities Wear Sunglasses!

Wimbledon is a place you can easily spot the celebrities. It's nice to be able to see well known faces relaxing and enjoying themselves. As Wimbledon is in June/July the sun is shining (... most of the time) so the crowd are often sporting hats and sunglasses. Here are my favourite photos of celebs in glasses.

Hugh Jackman and Deborra Lee-Furness in the Royal Box - Scott Heavey/AELTC
Believe it or not, that's Hugh Jackman! The reason behind this brave look is that he is currently playing Blackbeard for the film 'Pan'. He has opted for dark black sunglasses. To match the beard maybe. No hat? Hmmmm. Brave.

Samuel L. Jackson and Sofia Davis in the Royal Box - Jon Buckle/AELTC
Samuel L. Jackson can rock any glasses. That's because he's Samuel L. Jackson!

Chris Hemsworth with Elsa Pataky in the Royal Box on Centre Court - Jon Buckle/AELTC
Loving Elsa Pataky's sunglasses with extra framing. Meanwhile her husband has opted for sunglasses with one arm! C'mon Ray Ban, hook Chris up with some new sunnies.

Sir Chris Hoy and Lady Sarra in the Royal Box at Wimbledon - Jon Buckle/AELTC
As Chris Hoy looks on, his wife Sarra can't take her eyes off his sunglasses. The gentleman behind is even questioning his decision.

Jude Law sits in the Royal Box on Centre Court - Jon Buckle/AELTC
Ooo Jude, give us a side view why don't you!

Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge sit in the Royal Box during the Gentlemen's Singles Final - Scott Heavey/AELTC
Kate is look great in her sunnies. Will ... oh Will! Maybe Samuel L. Jackson can help you out!

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, App.

I've been working with Social Media for a few years and I must say, I am really impressed with how Wimbledon has been documented and how they have been sharing through their Social Media.

I starting following them on Instagram after last years final and I thought to myself 'mmm they probably wont have much to talk about the rest of the year' but boy I was wrong. Obviously it's not as action packed but they still keep you up to date with what goes on the rest of the year when we're not watching.

When games have reached a set, their Twitter will tell you immediately! Facebook is quick at showing groups of amazing photos of the matches and Instagram will spark up discussion and show you the unusual parts.

The App has also been great, especially when there are two games at once and you want to know the score. You can set you favourite players and you were updated on when they were playing and what the score was at each set. I was told to go and get some Vitamin D in the garden and with iPad in hand I could quickly see how the scores where changing, what the speed of the ball was and how long the game had been going on. The App opens to an amazing picture of all the courts and gives great detail of the Wimbledon grounds.

Wimbledon 2014 has been amazing. Lets hope 2015 is just as fantastic and we can do this all over again. Thank you for a great fortnight of sport!
